BrahMos-NG Clears Wind Tunnel Tests; Mach 3.5 Variant in Pipeline

The BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) has successfully completed high-speed wind tunnel trials at the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bengaluru, clearing a critical design gate for its Mach 3.5-capable airframe.

Key Technical Upgrades

  • Weight: 1.3 tons (vs 3 tons of BrahMos-II)
  • Length: 6 meters — fits internal bays of Su-30MKI, Tejas Mk2, AMCA
  • Propulsion: Dual-pulse solid rocket + ramjet sustainer
  • Guidance: AI-enabled terminal maneuver with millimeter-wave seeker

A hypersonic derivative (Mach 5+) is under conceptual review, leveraging DRDO’s HSTDV scramjet technology. First flight of BrahMos-NG is slated for 2027.

This development expands the BrahMos family now in service with Indonesia’s archipelagic defense, showcasing India’s growing missile export footprint.

Strategic Impact: Enables rapid, deep-strike saturation attacks from air, land, and sea — redefining precision firepower in the Indo-Pacific.
